The harvesting of Tottori's specialty pear begins in late August! Enjoy its juicy and crisp texture
Did you know that Tottori Prefecture is one of Japan's leading pear production regions?
Among them, the “20th Century Pear” is particularly famous for its juicy, refreshing sweetness. It is popular even in markets across Japan and boasts the highest shipment volume in the country. Tottori Prefecture is also active in developing original varieties including “Shinkan-sen,” “Natsuhime,” and “Yushu,” among others, and these distinctive pears reach their peak from summer to autumn.
All of these pears are of high quality and make delightful gifts. In Japan, there is a tradition of gifting seasonal fruits to loved ones, and Tottori's pears are a prime example of this. Orders flood in from every part of the country, and they are truly a delicacy that Tottori takes pride in.

●Tips for choosing delicious pears
• Pears that are greenish-yellow on the outside with scattered yellow patterns among the green tend to have higher sugar content and are recommended.
• Pears with a hefty weight indicate a high moisture content.
• Choose pears with a symmetrical shape and no surface blemishes.
• Those who prefer a crisp texture should choose yellowish-green pears, while those who prioritize sweetness should choose yellow ones.

"I want to eat freshly picked pears!” We recommend going pear-picking
A line of about 30 pear-picking orchards can be found just a 3-minute drive from Tottori Sand Dunes. The pears found here, known as the Fukube Pear Picking Road, are made even more delicious by the abundant sunshine and sea breezes from the Sea of Japan that blow across the Tottori Sand Dunes.
At Sankouen Nashi Garden, located near Tanega Pond, more than 10 varieties of pears with different harvesting periods are cultivated, attracting large crowds until mid-November.
Hatto Fruits Resort Farm, a tourist farm located very near to Yazu Town’s roadside station “Hatto," offers freshly picked fruits such as pears, apples, grapes, and chestnuts. You can even eat as many apples and pears as you want within the farm. The juicy, freshly picked fruits re exceptionally tasty! The farm is easily accessed, just 6 minutes on foot from Tokumaru Station on the Wakasa Railway, so everyone can enjoy fruit picking even without a car.
